Some went to Disney. Some went to Cape May. Others rested at home. But a select few painted murals.
Led by Mrs. Judy Harzer, eight students (Siobhan Collis, Cheyenne Severin, Nicholas Miller, Sophia Lin, Chase DeVeau, Hannah Krinsky, Isabella Gauthier, Samantha Ritacco) and one graduate (Casey Ritacco) were invited to create and execute six mobile murals inspired by nature and sustainability in honor of Earth Day. Recommended by the Wooden Walls Project of Asbury Park, NJ because of our unique Mural Arts program, this elite team was the first group of teens to participate in such an endeavor as Wooden Walls anticipates making this an ongoing initiative with our NJ high school students.
From Monday, April 18 thru Wednesday, April 20, these Brick Memorial students painted eight hours each day to bring their ideas to fruition. The Freehold Raceway Mall provided our students with water, lunches, and all materials for their creations. Many passers-by, the directors of the mall, the founder of the Wooden Walls Project, and a host of students, family, and friends all visited to encourage our artists and witness the murals unfold. “It was an invaluable and exciting experience for all involved,” states Mrs. Harzer, “and I am so impressed with the commitment, skill, and talent of our students!”
