Brick Memorial High School Shines at the First Annual Brick Green Fair

On a beautiful Saturday, teachers and students from Brick Memorial High School showcased their commitment to sustainability and community involvement at the first annual Brick Green Fair. Held at Havens Farm from 10 AM to 1 PM, the event was a vibrant celebration of eco-friendly initiatives and local collaboration.

Led by Miss Tarnowski, the Green Team made a significant impact by distributing their Project Pothos plants, encouraging attendees to incorporate more greenery into their homes and lives. Mr. Shiable and his Aquaponics students from the AP Environmental Science class impressed visitors with their aquatically grown lettuce, demonstrating innovative ways to grow food sustainably.

Junior Sophie Daly, a member of the Green Team, added, “It was amazing to see everyone come together for such a great cause. Plus, who knew growing lettuce could be so cool?!”

The Art Club contributed to the event’s success by painting birdhouses for the pollinator garden, an exciting new project aimed at supporting local pollinators and enhancing biodiversity in the community. The Mayor’s Student Advisory and various other organizations from around Brick also participated, adding to the diverse array of activities and exhibits.

“We had a fantastic turnout, and it was wonderful to see so many students and teachers actively engaging with the community to promote sustainability,” said Miss Tarnowski. “The enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved made the event truly special.”

The fair featured numerous raffles and activities, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for all attendees. It was an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, learn about sustainable practices, and support local initiatives.

Mr. Schiable, our Advanced Placement Environmental teacher, praised the event’s success, noting that it highlighted the school’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and community service. “We are incredibly proud of our students and teachers for their hard work and dedication. Events like the Brick Green Fair are essential in fostering a sense of responsibility and stewardship for our environment.”
