The Brick Township Board of Education has officially approved Mr. Edward Sarluca as the next Principal of Brick Memorial High School. The decision was made during last night’s board meeting, marking a momentous occasion for the school and the community.
As the first graduate of Brick Memorial to ascend to the position of Principal, Mr. Sarluca brings with him a deep-rooted connection to the institution. Class of 1993, his journey from student to leader is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the school’s values and traditions.
Mr. Sarluca’s illustrious career at Brick Memorial includes a significant tenure as the Athletic Director, a role where he showcased exemplary leadership. His dedication and accomplishments were further recognized when he was honored with the title of Athletic Director of the Year in 2021, a well-deserved accolade.
Having been an integral part of Brick Memorial for over two decades, Mr. Sarluca expressed his commitment to giving the school the love it deserves. In his heartfelt address, he conveyed gratitude to his family, all proud life-long Mustangs, and particularly thanked his wife of 20 years for her unwavering support.
Acknowledging the support of his sister, Maria Lupo, a physical education teacher at Brick Memorial, Mr. Sarluca expressed deep appreciation for her constant encouragement. He also shared an emotional moment when discussing the tough part of leaving Sara Petraccoro, the Athletic Director secretary, whom he holds in high regard.
The official commencement of Mr. Sarluca’s role as Principal is scheduled for February 5, 2024. Until then, Interim Principal Dennis Filippone will continue to lead, expressing full support for Mr. Sarluca’s upcoming tenure.
“We are in this together,” affirmed Mr. Sarluca, emphasizing unity within the school community. He expressed joy at working with Dr. David Kasyan, highlighting the friendly rivalry with Brick Township High School and cherishing the collegiality between the two schools.
Taking a poignant moment, Mr. Sarluca paid tribute to the late Pete Walski, whose funeral took place yesterday morning. He thanked Walski for being one of the individuals instrumental in making Brick Memorial a reality.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Sarluca expressed eagerness in “building an identity” for Brick Memorial High School, a sentiment met with overwhelming positivity from the community, the Board of Education, and the students and staff.
